When considering antioxidant foods who knew that aside from the acai berry, cacao leads the way.  However, before you start downing the chocolate out of excitement, keep in mind the amount you would have to eat to get the true antioxidant benefit and the amount of sugar that would go along with it.  It is important to eat a well rounded healthy diet, and when we can’t quite keep up on that with all of our hectic lifestyles there are some great supplements to consider out there.

Below is a list of the higher antioxidant foods along with their ORAC value*.
(Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, ORAC is a test tube analysis that measures the total antioxidant power of foods)

Although we are trying to make this list as accurate as possible please keep in mind that it is a little difficult to get an exact read on true ORAC values.  Different labs use different scales and methods of comparing dry weights, wet weights, and units per servings.  For this reason this list and it's values is based on an average score.  It is recommended that if an average level of 5,000 ORAC value totals are consumed a day , it may help in the prevention of heart disease, Alzheimer’s, certain cancers, various other diseases, and helps to slow down the process of aging, both mentally and physically.  All ORAC values based on 100 gram servings (approx. 3 ½ oz)
