There’s no place like home.

To help you control your symptoms of diverticulitis or reduce the repeat of another diverticulitis flare up, home treatment can be a great addition to your daily care and diverticulosis maintenance.

If you have a mild attack, try these following suggestions to alleviate mild abdominal pain and cramps:

  • Relaxation – sit in a quiet room and use meditation techniques & slow deep breaths.
  • Place a heating pad on your abdomen area
  • Over the counter pain medicines such as Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve

If your pain increases and these suggestions are not helping, contact your doctor and see which pain medicine they would suggest for you.

To keep the bowels healthy and moving correctly:

  • Maintain a high-fiber diet of whole grains, brown rice, fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Time your meals daily at the same time to maintain healthy bowel routine
  • Plenty of fluids everyday
  • Do not strain during bowel movements
  • Do not rely on laxative for regular bowel movements, check into fiber supplements instead.
  • Keep on a regular exercise routine, it doesn’t matter if it’s walking or aerobics.

Your daily health is all up to you, follow your bodies signals and keep in touch with your health care provider.
